Sorry I was MIA

Post by lbaker on Sat Apr 16, 2011 1:20 pm

I had meant to complete Friday's slots Thursday night. However, we had a tornado outbreak and spent most of the evening in the hall. We were very lucky because the tornadoes all missed us. A lot of the communities around us were hit. One lost its school and even had a couple of deaths.

Then last night I had a hair appointment that wasn't over until almost 8 pm. She was running an hour and a half behind. Argh! I wouldn't have stayed but my hair was in bad shape.

We spent this morning at a festival in downtown. DD is raising money for a Relay for Life marathon pageant. I feel so behind. Trying to decide if I try to catch up or take a nap.

You all have made some great stuff. I am so impressed. Great job!!!

Very Happy Very Happy So glad you are ok - we heard about all the tornadoes and hoped everyone was ok.

Glad to hear you selected napping - much better to get some sleep after stress than anything!

We got that same front with all the tornadoes last night here in VA.

We were watching it as it moved northeast from Raleigh, NC - headed right for us. Just as it crossed the James River about 10-15 miles out - this huge cell that caused so much destruction - split in two.

It went right around us - then it crossed over the York River just on the other side of us - about 10-15 miles and hit Gloucester, Va. Took out a middle school there and some homes.

To say the least - we were very lucky.

This front has cause over 60 deaths so far - and spawned over 77 tornadoes.
Very scary time. My thoughts are with all the families.

Oh my goodness - I know I have been hearing about all the tornadoes. They are amazing as well as scary. I am so glad they missed you.

Closest we have been (several times) is 3 blocks. (IL, NE, MN)

Will keep families in prayer.

That is soo scary! All we have over on the west coast to worry about is earthquakes, which thankfully happen a lot less often than tornadoes! Glad to hear you are okay!

We drove by an area that got hit with a tornado from Sat. night - today. It is about 7 miles from our house.

When I told you how the cell split and went around us - this was the southern part of the split - the one that also hit Gloucester, VA. This tornado touched down less then a 1/4 mile from Busch Garden, Williamsburg. The path was about a block wide - no trees left standing - about 25 houses got hit. I'm sure higher ups at BG were quite nervous.

Good thing - no deaths - everyone safe

That's so scary, great there wasn't any deaths!

Last year or has it been two years??? A tornado hit on the north side of Rochester, everyone was alright, but homes and buildings were destroyed. We were on vacation when it hit, so I'm glad about that!

Dh and I have only seen one live tornado. We were driving on the highway and there it was, off the highway in a field! Guess were we were at???............Kansas....lol!

Last year, one touched down at my friends house on the other side of the field. Really strange, touched down, destroyed a lot of stuff, lifted up and went on. They were all fine and her 8 yr old had a fun picture in the paper where an old tree was toppled - the 'root ball' pat was as big as her two story farmhouse!. Also strange - house was left 100% alone - barns, trees - not so lucky. The house is only about 40 yards from the barn.

Another one picked up my dads 120'x40' clinic, turned it 4" and set it back down! The whole building had to be redone, but no one was hurt. It is about 150 yards from the house - house was left alone, trees as well???

In Omaha - it went down the road three blocks from our house - we were fine, but the complete destruction was just unbelievable - houses, trees, cars, etc - gone!

I can remember being in more, and the feeling when you hear them going by is scary. I am so happy that people were ok there. The destruction we have been seeing is just indescribable.

Living in Oklahoma for most of my life, torandoes are just par for the course. You go to the hall or cellar and wait it out. I remember one time taking my dd's pygmy goat to our neighbor's cellar. Personally, I'd rather be in the hall than the cellar. I don't like the idea of being underground and getting stuck.
