November 2011

Post by Scraprageous on Tue Sep 27, 2011 6:50 am

Huge thanks to our November Challenge Co-Designer, KMG/Karen!!!

Challenges for November include:

Challenge One -
Starting off tough! Due Date November 5, 2011
Alter something unusual/funny/weird , you get the idea. Make sure to show both before and after photos. Remember, this does not have to be something for a scrapbook page. It is ok if it is a centerpiece or wall decor, or even a gag gift for a friend Smile

Challenge Two -
Here is an easier one for you. Due Date November 11, 2011
Use a swap on a layout/card/altered project. Show before and after pics!

Challenge Three - Due Date November 14, 2011
This month, three of the due dates are on family member's birthdays (however, they encompass 5 birthdays). Since it is obvious from this that somewhere there must be twins or at least kids born on the same day - years apart, we are going to go with a twin theme for this challenge (both of these occurred). Somewhere on your layout/card/project,
include twin items - ex: two zippers, two flowers, two buttons, two anything. The catch - they must be identical!

Challenge Four - Due Date November 18, 2011
Your paper craft must incorporate at least 1 circle,1triangle and 1 square. These can be die cuts, doodles, the shape of photos etc. Just make sure to include all 3 shapes. Indicate where when you post your photo if it isn't obvious.

Challenge Five - Due Date November 22, 2011
I know it is close to Thanksgiving in the USA, so I don't want your challenge to be too tough. Since
many of us celebrate with family gatherings, include something in your
layout or project that shows (i.e. photo) or reminds you of family. Bonus in the drawing if you journal about a family tradition (no, you don't have to tell us what the tradition is if you don't want).

Challenge Six - Due Date November 25, 2011
Use a minimum of 12 inches of ribbon in your project. It can be more, but not less. It can be in multiple pieces or a single strand. Have fun!

Challenge Seven - Due Date November 30, 2011
Color Challenge - use the color brown on your layout or card. No particular theme - just have fun!

Remember - working ahead is fine, the important part is posting in the appropriate 48 hours. From Noon the day before until noon the day after the challenge date is when entries are accepted. Post in this thread Smile

Yep, came up with this challenge while traveling. Here is the END result

So, the next time you get a card with a tissuey-paper flower, you may want to think twice as to where it's been!

Not nearly as creative as Karen, and the first idea (attaching the hunny pot to the jar - which would have been the unusual part - a card with a jar attached) didn't work so well; however, I think the result works.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

hmm - maybe for the weird/unusual - look closely at the cricut (this happened accidentally) - my altering is the marker with the settings written down for each type of paper I use. It happened before today, though. Last year, I think. I got mad at wasting a piece of paper (or not cutting right - whatever - yes, I am that cheap), so I took the nearest permanent marker, got out test sheets of all brands of paper I had and wrote down the settings for blade, speed and pressure.

If you are interested

We R Memory Keepers paper Blade 5, Speed 3, Pressure 4
Bazzill & Glitter co'redinations - Blade 6, Speed 5, Pressure 5
AC Cardstock, co'redinations & most ds cs - Blade 5, Speed 4, Pressure 5
Double Mates (two sided solid cs) - Blade 4, Speed 4, Pressure 5, Multi-cut
DCWV Cardstock (works, not great) - Blade 4, Speed 2, Pressure 3 - be sure blade is sharp
Walmart - Blade 4, Speed 3, Pressure 4 (don't use too sticky of a mat)
Textured pack from Walmart - Blade 5, Speed 3, Pressure 4

NOTE: these settings don't work with every cricut. At the last retreat, I had to really play with someone else's cricut to get it to cut correctly - even thin paper required B6, S2, P5

Challenge #1:
I'm going for unusual and particle? If it doesn't count go ahead and delete Smile

I altered my Sizzix case to hold/store my clear stamp sets.....sort of like the CD storage system concept.

Lucinda I like your hunny card and altered cricut! What's in the jar?

Helen great idea to alter. Just wondering how you now store the sizzix dies?

Thanks! I store my Sizzix dies stacked on shelves(by theme), with out them being in their plastic cases.

Here's an old picture of them stored on shelves:

I created a container for utensils in a picnic basket. Not sure why yet, but I like it:

I think the stickers used on this were well over 5 or 6 years old.

Jeri - fun little box

If anyone uses the tissue flowers for original purposes and then has swimming or dr. appt's, thing could be rather unique - explaining how the ink got there and answering exactly how you ink things? Razz
